Developers Double Fine announced at PSX today that a new Psychonauts title is in the works for Playstation VR.
It is called Psychonauts: In The Realm Of Ruin and it will launch on the Playstation 4 – particularly for VR (virtual reality). It is said to take place after the first Psychonauts and will be before Psychonauts 2 coming in 2018.
“It’s first-person, Raz will have the ability to project his psyche onto other peoples’ brains, so he has a unique way of getting around and manipulating the world”. Creative Director at Double Fine, Tim Schafer stated, “Psychonauts ends with them taking off to rescue Truman Zanotto, Lili’s dad, head of the Psychonauts. Psychonauts 2 arrives with them landing at the Psychonauts headquarters having rescued Truman Zanotto, ready to explore the actual world of the Psychonauts with Raz as a Psychonaut, seeing actual agents in action.”
The first person puzzle/adventure hybrid will focus on a unique Psychonauts experience with it being only playable through VR. That being said, it will be difficult to gauge the quality of the end product as VR games cannot be properly displayed through a video or advertisement.
