Sony is developing a new Playstation 4 console which will enable games to run at a native ‘4K’ resolution with increased graphical power.
According to Kotaku, developer sources have confirmed that Sony is currently working on a new Playstation 4 console dubbed the “Playstation 4.5” or “Playstation 4K”. While there were no details on whether or not the upgrade will be available for current Playstation 4 owners, it is said that the new console will include a higher-end GPU to support running games in 4K resolution.
It is also speculated that the new console will further support the Playstation VR, by increasing the graphical power that can be displayed in the headset. This would help match the Playstation VR with other VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.
Kotaku mentions that Sony has started briefing developers on the new hardware which could lead to an announcement at this year’s E3. However, all of this is speculation as there is no “for sure” source to these rumors. Kotaku has reported this to Sony for clarification and they responded with “We can’t comment on rumors or speculation.”
