Sony is making a move in the cloud gaming space and it may be a significant one. While it didn’t seem to appeal to their fan-base at large, Sony’s PlayStation Now still managed to pass the 700,000 user mark back in May, so it would be a fiction to say that it failed. It’s small when compared to the number of PS4’s roaming the wild, but it has grown exponentially since the program began and with a new announcement they are finally putting up a challenge to Microsoft’s successful XBox Game Pass.
Sony announced today that PlayStation Now, their streaming service, was taking a price cut. Whereas the original pricing scheme sat at $19.99/$44.99/$99.99 (for the monthly, quarterly and annual passes, respectively), it has now been reduced to $12.99/$34.99/$79.99. This new price is active as of October 1st, 2019 and does include those who are already part of the program– the pricing adjustment will be seen on the next billing cycle.
To sweeten the deal, Sony has also announced that some of its award-winning exclusive content will be available on PlayStation Now until January 2nd, 2020. This list includes 2018’s Game of the Year God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, inFAMOUS: Second Son and Grand Theft Auto 5. Now, just having these games on the list is news enough, but it also means that with a Dualshock 4 controller plugged in these games are temporarily available to play on your PC (Sony recommends at least a 5Mbps connection). Sony even took the opportunity to tease that they would add other popular games for limited times but there were no indications as to which ones they would be in the future.
