Gamers are no longer locked to the Playstation Network ID they registered as in 2006. If you’ve been wishing for a way to change your Playstation Network ID, Sony announced plans to unlock this feature in the weeks to come.
The change will release in beta as part of the Playstation Preview Program. Select users who have participated in earlier Playstation 4 software betas will be among the first to change their ID. While in the beta, changing your Playstation Network ID is free for the first time. Changing it a second time will cost $9.99, with a 50% discount provided to Playstation Plus subscribers.
Sony mentions that games published after April 1st, 2018, will be compatible with the ID changes, while the majority of games published before that should support the change without issue. There may be a few games that encounter issues with it, and as such, Sony is offering gamers the opportunity to revert their ID change, at any time for free, should it become a problem.
The feature will roll out to all Playstation 4 owners in early 2019. Will you be changing your Playstation ID once the feature launches? Let us know in the comments below!
The Playstation 4 is available at retailers worldwide.
